Question: What is economic development?

What is economic development?  Generally, economic development includes a process that is directed at improvement of a community or region.  In this general description, economic development cannot be contained to only recruitment of new businesses.  The community’s economic development effort must include upgrades to infrastructure, improvements to educational and health care facilities, and removal of barriers that hinder new growth opportunities.  All of these concerns are a part of economic development that is considered community development.  In fact, a community’s quality of life is the single most significant factor for new business location.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

On behalf of the Warren County Port Commission and the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Foundation, welcome to our new expanded and updated website.  In today’s technology based business environment, an effective website is an extremely valuable tool to actively recruit new businesses to our community.  We hope that you will find the website both user-friendly and informative.

The purpose of the “Forum” section of the site is to provide the public with information pertaining to economic development activities and issues.  It is our intent to update this section monthly with future discussions on topics such as incentives, legislative activities and local policies that affect our local businesses, taxes and port activities as well as other economic issues.  Our first installment will discuss economic development in general.

The mission of the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Foundation is to work in cooperation with entities such as River Region, the Vicksburg Warren School District, the City of Vicksburg, the Warren County Board of Supervisors, and other agencies to address concerns that affect our quality of life.  In the coming months, the EDF will begin a process of establishing goals and objectives to enhance our quality of life and thereby provide a blueprint for economic development success.
